(Reg.Fee: $0)
BCMOVE.ZIP Yes 18095 3/5/1991
BCMove 1.2 is a virtually perfect file moving
utility. Its command syntax is nearly
identical to the DOS Copy command, making it
easy and intuitive to use. It warns before
overwriting an existing file. If you move
files to a non-existent directory, some file
movers will either simply abort or, worse
yet, will conclude that you are renaming the
files - all to the same file name, causing
the loss of those files. BCMove will give you
the choice of creating a new subdirectory or
renaming the file. BCMove is fast, doesn't
mess up the screen with strange colors, and
best of all, it's freeware. (Barry L
Campbell) (ASP) (Reg.Fee: $0)
BKU.ZIP Yes 1448 6/22/1989
BKU copies only un-archived files and sets
the archive bit. (Keith P. Graham) (Reg.Fee:

CDPSW.ZIP Yes 128948 3/5/1994
Cliff's Directory Program is a pop-up file
manager and directory utility. Its main
display has three windows plus a menu bar.
One window is a graphical directory tree that
also shows the number of files and total disk
space used by the directory. Another window
shows the files in each directory as you move
through the tree. The third window shows
disk, directory and file statistics. Features
include the usual file management functions
(move, copy, erase, rename, view, execute,
etc.) except archiving. We feel obliged to
point out that most of the claims the author
makes about the uniqueness of this program
(eg: "the only TSR that can be loaded twice",
"the only pop-up file manager that uses less
than 160k") are not correct. Nevertheless,
the program is very fast, easy to use, and
well worth a look. (Cliff Roberson) (Reg.Fee:
$40)
CLEARFIL.ZIP Yes 11286 6/22/1989
Clearfil 1.0 securely deletes files by first
writing all 1's into the files followed by
all 0's prior to deleting them so that no
snooper utility can ever recover sensitive
files. It will display and delete any
read-only, hidden or system files. (Normally,
deleting a file only changes the directory
entry and the contents of the file are still
on the disk until overwritten by an active
file.) (Dr. Masaaki Sawada) (Reg.Fee: $10-$20)
CLNUP.ZIP Yes 11058 10/5/1993
CleanUp 1.0 cleans up your hard drive by

recovering files. The program will allow you
to include or exclude up to 20 file
extensions and define a list of files which
will be either excluded or included.

The window display may be toggled off for a
full-screen view of DOS. Function keys let
you view, edit, copy, delete, and rename
files. A menu can be brought up for other
functions. Although the program was designed
for networks, it works well on a single
system and is ideal for anyone who does a lot
of work with files in DOS. (Skip Bremer)

DS421B.ZIP Yes 179185 2/4/1994

subdirectories and, within a subdirectory,
mark files for deletion, copying, or backup.
You can enter DOS commands and edit files
(with your editor) without going back to DOS.

files. Features include being able to add,
delete and change the name of directories, to
display only selected files in a directory by
using DOS-type wildcards and to sort the
filenames by name, extension, size, date or
not at all. DS has on-line, context-sensitive
help split screen mode, DESQview aware; the
ability to tag or untag files based on
read-only, system hidden, archive bits,
matches or comparisons with name, date,
and/or size of files; and the ability to
compare files across split screen displays.

be used in place of built-in file printing
routines. (Nat Martino) (Reg.Fee: $15)
DSECURE.ZIP Yes 7742 8/28/1992
DSecure writes over all erased areas of a
disk so that files cannot be undeleted. When
DOS deletes a file, it does not remove the
data files, it simply marks the directory
entry as deleted. That is why undelete
utilities can so easily undelete a file. That
is also why you may be giving people
personal, confidential information (credit
card numbers, love letters, etc) every time
you pass out a floppy that you may have used
before. Even if someone cannot undelete a
file on your disk, they may still read the
sectors with a utility like Norton's. Running
Dsecure on the disks removes that risk.
(Garry J. Vass) (Reg.Fee: $0)
DX.ZIP Yes 69626 3/7/1994
DX is a powerful replacement for DOS
commands. Besides allowing more versatile use
of wildcards (such as "DX *name.*"), it
offers additional features such as sorted
directory listing and file finding. DX
supports multiple inclusion and exclusion
patterns after a '*'; you can ask for simple
DIR-like directories or complex directories
like: dx *t*+my*e;.pas In the example above,
DX would select all files that have a "t"
anywhere in their names; AND all files that
start with "my" and end with "e"; UNLESS they
had an extension of ".PAS". Files like
"MYFILE.EXT", "TEST", and "XTY.C" would match
while "TEST.PAS" would not match. DX can sort
your files any way you wish and search entire
directory structures; even match and sort
files within ARChives and LiBRaries. DX fully
supports network configurations and supports
EGA/VGA 43/50-line modes and the Hercules
132-column mode. (Robert K Blaine) (ASP)

ElfTree 3.20S is a slick, fast, high capacity
DOS shell for running applications and
managing files and directories. There is no
limit on the length of a menu command line,

inside the program. Included is a tool to
compare files in two directories
byte-by-byte, and one to tag all files that
have notes attached. You can convert EBCDIC
files to ASCII while viewing them. There is
high-speed disk scanning, and support for
over 16,000 files in 1000 directories across
26 drives. A screen saver is also provided.
NEW: files are now truncated to 0 bytes
before erasing, changed CDROM key to include
file times.ile times. (Alan J. Avery) (ASP)
(Reg.Fee: $35)
EZFILE.ZIP Yes 107163 7/9/1993
EasyFile 2.3 displays two different, sorted
directories side-by-side, allowing you to
select individual files and groups of files
for the program to act on. It allows tagging
and untagging, copy, move, delete, and much
more. You can quickly move up and down
directories, displaying and working on their
files. The double-directory display makes it
easy to compare directories and copy or move
files between them. One nifty feature is that
archive files (ARC, ZIP and LZH) are treated
like subdirectories: you can point to one,
press a key, and the contents are quickly
displayed. Another is a DOS Menu feature for
running applications from within EasyFile.
Other features include support for extended
and expanded memory, and a hexadecimal file
viewing mode. (Dennis LaBelle) (Reg.Fee: $30)

FILEMAN.ZIP Yes 63602 6/1/1993
File-Man 4.25 is a menu-driven file
management utility. The program has an
extensive list of features, but it is not
something that can just be picked up and run.
The documentation file is over 240k, but it
cannot be read from DOS; the whole massive
file must be printed. But if you are
determined enough to do that, you will find a
powerful, fast file manager which also
supports NetBios networks. (David Groome)
(ASP) (Reg.Fee: $40)
FILER2.ZIP Yes 23628 5/29/1989
Filer2 is a non-menu-driven file manager.
Many experienced users don't like to use DOS
menu programs because, no matter how fast and
versatile they are, they seem slow and
confining. The difference between FILER2's
commands and DOS's commands are that FILER2's
are safer, because you are warned of possible
problems such as overwriting existing files,
yet more powerful. For example, FILER2's
RMDIR will remove a directory if it is empty
or not, after displaying the contents of the
directory and asking your approval.

important file, it will be even handier.
(Reg.Fee: $2)

The latter feature can also be used to search
for files on a hard disk without copying
them. (Stephen R. Davis) (Reg.Fee: $0)

MOVEFIL.ZIP Yes 13582 9/19/1989
Move Files 4.2 is a file moving utility. Its
only drawback is that when "moving" a file to
a different drive, it requires the presence
of COPY FILES, also available from PsL, which
slows things down and seems like an
unnecessary nuisance anyway. Otherwise, this
is an excellent file mover and COPY FILES is
an excellent file copier. (Bryan Higgins)
(Reg.Fee: $0)
MOVHERE.ZIP Yes 30202 3/9/1992
Move It Over Here! 3.0 searches your hard
disk for a specified file and then moves it
to the current directory. This can save you
having to type in long PATH names, but it is
many times slower than using a regular Move
utility, and if more than one file on your
hard disk has the same name, it may move the
wrong one, though it shows which PATH it came
from so that you could move it back. (David
Smith) (Reg.Fee: $5)

MV 2.6 is a near-perfect file moving utility.
This provides a couple of niceities that
BCMOVE does not have, such as being able to
use "." in place of "*.*" (well, every
keystroke counts). The only mild drawback is
that it is a hair slower than BCMOVE, but the
author says that's because MV does some
additional safety checks. (Bob Eyer)

displays two directories (the source and the
target) to make it easy to compare
directories and to see the results of copying
files. It is easy to mark files for mass
copying, moving, deleting, archiving, etc. It
will automatically call Vern Buerg's LIST
program for viewing files and FINDIT to
search for files. These calls to external
programs let you use other utilities if you
prefer. Qfiler defaults to the greatest
number of lines your monitor will support. If
the current file is an archive file, pressing
Enter will display the contents. Support for
LHArc, PKZip and Nogate PAK are included.
Another zoom feature will allow you to delete

Morgan) (Reg.Fee: $0)
RELDEL.ZIP Yes 12529 9/1/1990
RelDel is the computer generation's version
of the paper shredder. Normal deleting of a
sensitive file is not secure enough, since
the data remains on the disk to be read by
sector editors or even undeleted. RelDel
writes garbage over the data on the disk
(twice, optionally) before deleting the
directory entry. Naturally, this calls for
greater than usual caution by the user.

TRASHIT.ZIP Yes 12482 5/16/1992
TrashIt 1.8 is the world's safest way to
delete files. Based on a suggestion for such
utility in PsL News, this 1K TSR intercepts
DEL commands and instead of deleting files
immediately, moves them to a directory by the
want to undelete a file, it is simply copied
back to where you had it originally. Undelete
utilities may not be able to recover deleted
files if you have added new files to the disk
since deleting the old one, but Trash-It can
always recover a file. You can configure
Trash-It to let files with specified
extensions or those below a specified size be
deleted immediately. If you see junk files
with extensions like TMP or $$$ in your TRASH
subdirectory, you can configure Trash-It to
not save those in the future. (RSE, Inc.)

XDel 1.05 does a really secure job of
deleting files. First it writes over the
file's data, then it changes the file's name
to a non-displayable ASCII character, then it
truncates the file to a length of zero, then
it deletes the file through DOS. No way is
Norton's going to bring that one back. And it
does all this in only 282 bytes! (Unique
Software) (Reg.Fee: $0)
XDEL_JMM.ZIP Yes 22428 11/8/1993

warns you and asks for verification before
copying over an existing file of the same
name. It also displays file directory
information for each file to make it easier
to see if they really are the same file. A
nice option would have been to allow renaming
either the source or target file and
continuing the copy, but maybe another day...
